Launching this collection is What A Wonderful World from prolific and multi-talented jazz legend, Louis Armstrong. Joining Louis is a stellar cast of the world’s most well-loved entertainers: Judy Garland performs Over The Rainbow (Wizard of Oz); Bing Crosby performs Don’t Fence Me In;The Bachelors’ warming rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone (Rogers & Hammerstein) also joins the nostalgic musical journey. Other notable tracks include Song Of The Clyde (Kenneth McKellar), and Pedro The Fisherman (Gracie Fields). The thoughtfully written booklet notes provide a fascinating insight into the stories behind the repertoire and the composers. Silver Memories: Reminiscence forms the first of many batches to come in the Silver Memories series.

Silver Memories is a 24 hour a day nostalgia radio service distributed by satellite across Australia. The service started in Brisbane in 2007 specifically for the aged and residents of aged care homes. Silver Memories plays music from the 1920s to the early 1960s as well as old radio serials, old time comedy and features on the great stars of the past of stage and screen. University research has shown that listening to Silver Memories has beneficial effects for older listeners. The principle behind Silver Memories is Reminiscence Therapy – familiar music is a powerful means of evoking happy memories of a person’s youth. Silver Memories uses the power of music to change people’s lives and this series of albums revisits music whose power to heal, to inspire and to evoke memories has never been in doubt.
