Details

The cinematic legend of James Dean continues to burn in the hearts of the fallen star’s dedicated fans and film buffs alike. Now his rare talent and dynamic screen presence is showcased in three diverse and compelling TV dramas.

I AM A FOOL (1954) Delivering an intimate performance, resonating with vulnerability and honesty, Dean stars alongside his Rebel Without a Cause co-star Natalie Wood.

THE UNLIGHTED ROAD (1955) Revealing a darker, conflicted performance as Dean steps into the role of Jeffery Latham, a wandering Korean War veteran whose life changes forever when he steps into a quiet dinner one lonely night.

SOMETHING FOR AN EMPTY BRIEFCASE (1953) Thought lost and not seen for over half a century, is Dean at his troubled best. Full of sex appeal, bravado and quiet desperation, the Hollywood icon sets the screen on fire as a rough-neck looking to go straight after one final job.

Packed with extra features and truly rare footage, THE JAMES DEAN ERA captures the legend of a young star in his prime, and reminds us of a Hollywood diminished by his untimely death.

Ingrid Bergman Remembered

Ingrid Bergman Remembered is a loving retrospective of a woman who lived a remarkable life. Appearing together for the first time are Ingrid’s daughters Pia Lindstrom and Isabella Rossellini, the model and actress, who take a personal look back at the life of their mother.

Seen from the perspective of her children, this profile goes beyond Ingrid’s acting career to recall stories from her childhood in Sweden to her premature death at age 67 from breast cancer. Replete with a wonderful assortment of rare and never-before-seen photographs and home movies, this portrait is rounded out by film clips and newsreels which assemble beautifully around Ms. Lindstrom’s narration. Cary Grant was the very essence of a movie star: a man every woman loved and every man wanted to be. His deft comic style merged easily with his strength as a romantic leading man. But the suave exterior concealed a complex and often sensitive individual. Cary's painful journey from his lonely working-class beginnings to the peak of Hollywood royalty is made vivid through family photos, archival footage, clips from many of his films -- including his first, following his discovery by blonde bombshell Mae West, starring role in She Done Him Wrong. Other movies include His Girl Friday, Notorious, An Affair To Remember, To Catch A Thief, North By Northwest, Charade, and more. Among friends and colleagues interviewed on-screen are Leslie Caron, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr, Deborah Kerr, Eva Marie Saint, Ralph Bellamy, Stanley Donen, Richard Brooks and Stanley Kramer. Narrated by Richard Kiley. Born into poverty in London, when Michael Caine decided to become an actor, he was looked upon with amazement: who did he think he was? But he persevered, starting in repertory theatre, then TV, and finally succeeding in becoming one of filmdom’s most versatile stars.

Today, despite those successes, Michael Caine retains a keen memory of his origins. He has refused to abandon the Cockney accent that reflects his roots, or the authentic spirit that bends a knee to no one. Narrated with gentle self-deprecating humour and honesty by the star himself, this Special features clips from such films as Educating Rita, The Man Who Would Be King, Alfie, California Suite, Hannah And Her Sisters, Mona Lisa, Sleuth, Deathtrap, Zulu, and The Ipcress File. Also included are the recollections of friends, co-workers and family members such as actors Julie Walters, Bob Hoskins, Dyan Cannon, Angie Dickinson, Ben Kingsley, Roger Moore, directors Lewis Gilbert and Sidney J. Furie, and Michael Caine’s wife, Shakira.
