Anna Netrebko is the upcoming dazzling opera soprano of our young decade. How did this all come about? Her breathtaking career over the last few years has included extremely successful debuts in Salzburg, Munich, Vienna, New York, San Francisco and recently Los Angeles. This is the story of her astonishing rise to stardom and gives an insight into her personality in a 52-minute TV special. The program consists of interview parts interwoven with 5 arias realised as video clips. Especially staged for the camera, these clips depict Anna Netrebko's joy in performing different characters as well as her stunning stage presence and acting abilities for a TV audience.
While the clips show a ravishing, glamorous star with a heavenly voice, the parts when Anna talks about herself as a contrast are very intimate, giving the viewer the opportunity to get to know her on a personal level. In her refreshing manner, with no divaesque habits at all, she talks about childhood in Russia, her career, friends and the aspects of stardom. With Vincent Paterson as the director of this special - who also worked for Madonna and Björk - the visual language of this portrait reflects a contemporary approach to introduce one of the most exceptional sopranos of our time to a wider audience. Video clips: Mussetta from Puccini's LA BOHEME, Marguerite from Gounod's FAUST, Dvorak's mermaid RUSALKA, Donna Anna from DON GIOVANNI and LA SONNAMBULA's Amina.
